Classroom Highlights

The Middle School students started a Family Unit by creating a family crest. The students filled in a shield with drawings of what they and their families like to do together. The students then moved on to learning family vocabulary terms and created their own arbol genealogico, family tree. These family trees included their immediate family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and c ousins.

After creating their own family trees, students applied their knowledge of family vocabulary to ask and answer questions in Spanish about other family trees.

We are at the end of the third quarter and making preparations for Easter and enjoying some well needed time off. The middle school students will be preparing for the track & field day, wishing we could be running outside. Running around the gym isn’t the same as practicing outside. The Meet will be on May 20, at Howards Grove High School. Happy Easter!

The math classes have been discussing volume, perimeter, - & + numbers, multiplying large numbers and division, fractions, polygons, adding and subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping.

In health class, we are discussing our emotions. How we deal with others, how this can be improved, our feelings and how it affects those around us. Also learning how to keep our stress at a minimum and controlling or dealing with our stressful lives as teens. We need to remember to keep our hearts healthy by eating right and exercising to keep our heart rates up too. Remember, “ My Changing Body ” book is due to be completely read by April 4. You will be bringing the book back to school fully read and discussed at home with your parents. Let’s work super hard this fourth quarter!

All of the middle school students are wrapping up the construction of their essays on the class novels. It has been a difficult but worthy process. The students can now support their ideas with evidence from the text and stronger language, skills which build their credibility as writers. Next, the classes will begin a poetry unit. They will read the works of great poets, as well as create their own poetry.
